How The Mighty Have Fallen!

It is so terribly heartbreaking to see Christian leaders fall away...

It is so terribly heartbreaking to see Gospel singers, Pastors, Evangelists, and other Christian leaders succumb to their flesh and our broken society. In my lifetime I have watched one after another fall to some scandalous situation, or just announce they no longer believe in God. I just read another article of a man I held in high regard whose sexual misconduct has come to light after his passing. The ministry and family could not believe the accusations, but after a thorough investigation, the accusations turned out to be truths. It is heart breaking, discouraging, and disenchanting.

We must be very careful not to put our souls in the hands of men. Men are fallible creatures who will eventually let you down. There should be people we can look up to and hold in high regard and respect, but we must never lift them up to the throne of our heart. The only one who should hold that prominent place of preeminence in our life is Jesus Christ. We cannot afford to idolize another man. The Bible warns us not to put our trust in men. Psalm 146:3 states, “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.” (KJV) Even if there were no other scriptures that further support this warning, if God says it once, that is enough! Man will fail, but God will never fail.

This is also a reminder to pray fervently for these men and women in places of leadership. The enemy works even harder against them, because he gets more return for his efforts. Many times when one of these folks falls, there are many who have looked up to them that are completely disillusioned and disarmed by discouragement, disappointment, despondency. By taking out these men and women of faith who live in the spotlight the enemy takes out thousands of others who have placed too much trust in man. It has devastated the body of Christ over and over in the past 50 years in this country.

I want to remind you that God is perfect, but human beings are not. Jesus is perfect, but church people are not. The Holy Spirit is perfect, but your pastor is not. Put your trust in the unfailing, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent God who loves you more than you can begin to imagine! Look through His eyes and see that men and women are fallible creatures in need of prayer, admonition, reproof, correction, healing and help. Many men and women have started out with a desire to labor in building the Kingdom of God, and somewhere along the way began building an empire for themselves. Serve God, not man.
